Many times documents are presented to an SD Signings notary public that require a signer to be identified by a name that isn’t printed on their Identification. For Example, a signer must sign “Joesph Presley Cook” on a document. The Notary views the signer’s driver’s license and it reads “Joseph Cook”. The notary public is unable to verify that this person has the middle name “Presley”.  The SD Signings Notary cannot notarize the document as it requires. What does the notary do?

On many occasions SD Signings notaries will drive the extra miles to see a satisfactory identification that reads all the correct names. That’s right, with the signer’s permission, we will leave the signing location and follow a signer to obtain a proper ID. This is crucial to identifying an indiviual properly. We do this so that others are not affected. It is a courtesy, and it protects Californians and others from fraud.  It also provides that a transaction affecting multiple parties can process without the delay of redrafting docs. In a loan transaction many people have worked hard for this transaction to process!  It is better to drive the extra mile to get a job done right.

Unfortunately, if there is no identification, whether a physical ID Card or Credible Witnesses, then the notary will continue to protect all agencies from likely fraud, and politely decline. Fortunately, that typically isn’t the case, the signers and transaction coordinators are pleased with a job well done!

SD Signings has experienced notary agents for Provident Funding Loans. We are able to Provide San Diego agents with the necessary 500,000 E&O. We understand the guidelines and expectations for a successful provident signing.

Really the main purpose of a Notary Public is to detour Fraud.  SD Signings takes many special steps to to detour Fraud in order to protect the people of California and elsewhere.  Although many of these steps are not absolute requirements as they are not required by law, our clients typically cooperate in an effort to protect themselves and others.  Many of  these steps are required by law and we do cooperate by these standards fully.

  • SD Signings takes a thumb print for every notarization, deed or not.
  • We’ll find professional witnesses for additional confirmation of competence and willingness.
-Many times a nearby doctor or specialist is willing to sign as a witness of a person’s ability to understand, this way years down the road
a person’s willingness to sign a document is protected by the Notary and other witnesses. There isn’t a question!
  • If a situation seems awkward or fraudulent, we’ll leave! Our task as a public servant is to detour fraud. If someone is being coerced or seems unwilling we will leave the situation, and if necessary, report it.
  • If we are unable to understand a person because of a language barrier, we will not proceed.  On the other hand if a document is written in another language and a signer requires a notarization, we will provide this as we are legally available.
  • Proper Identification please. Your government issued ID must include a Photo, Physical Description, Serial Number and Signature.  We will only provide a notarization for the name we can identify by proper identification. If your document requires a notarization for a name that is followed by “Jr”, the identification provided must provide the same to properly identify you.
  • California Notaries are unavailable to Identify a title on your notary attachments. “President”, “Owner”, “Founder” are all titles that cannot be accounted for on a notary attachment.
  • Raise your Right hand! If you are swearing or affirming to a Jurat or Affidavit,  raise that right hand.

As you can see, we take special precautions to offer you quality service. Sometimes these steps seem like they can be nuisance, but in the end they protect everyone! For more special steps give us a call at SD Signings (619) 442-8585 concerning your situation. We are not attorneys and are unavailable to provide legal advice concerning your documents. The above SD Signings guidelines are steps that we may follow to ensure safety but are not necessarily required by law.

TIP# 1 to Escrow :
Are you entertaining the thought of a new notary?  Don’t be afraid to let them know what you want and how you want it done. There isn’t much training out there for Notary etiquette and requirements.  If you want your documents “packaged”, give your notary a quick lesson. They’ll do it to retain your business and you’ll get more of your work done in the process! Tell your Notary what you want. If it is within reason, you’ll get it!
